Looking into accredited online master of finance degree programs in Alaska is a great way to find out more about the opportunities available. Alaska is such a large state and the cities are so spread out that you might find that you cannot make the trek to a school for college. Even if you live outside of Alaska, you may still have an interest in schools that offer distance learning and online programs. These programs let you earn an advanced finance degree and even complete your MBA from home without taking classes on a campus or living on that campus during your studies.

University of Alaska

Distance Learning

When Alaska became a state in the 1950s, it already had a large university operating within its territorial lines. The very first campus in the school system opened in 1917, but it later added campuses in Anchorage and Juneau. The Anchorage campus now has a larger population than the flagship campus in Fairbanks does. Though those three campuses do a good job of meeting the needs of students, the university also implemented its own distance learning program that now includes online campuses. The distance learning program and all three campuses combined have a population of more than 35,000 students.

Master of Business Administration

The University of Alaska has a Master of Business Administration program available for students who want to study finance. It is now one of the only accredited online finance degree programs in Alaska. Though the university recommends that students follow a specific schedule, they can also customize their degree plans and take different classes each semester. Full time students typically finish within three years or less. You will take two classes each semester as a full time student and take two semesters of classes every year. Required courses include financial decision making, applied leadership, business analytics and organizational behavior. UA also asks that all MBA students take three seminars. These seminars cover a specific management, finance or business topic and require that you write a paper based on the topics you covered in class. Seminars offered by the University of Alaska focus on subjects like strategic management and executive roles in accounting.
