Manning School of Business

As the University of Massachusetts Lowell is another branch of the UMass school system, it goes by the name of UMass Lowell. Founded in 1894 as Lowell Normal School, it was the last of those teaching colleges established in Massachusetts. This school was open only to women and started classes with just over 100 students enrolled. To meet the needs of local employers, a nearby school opened and offered programs designed to help students find work in the textile industry. These two schools merged to form Lowell State College, which UMass later took over and renamed in the 1990s.
