Bachelor of Science in Accounting
Delaware State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Accounting that prepares graduates for careers as accountants and auditors. The program is 120-credit hours but is available in a five-year format that provides students with the 150-credit hours necessary to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination. Students gain an understanding of core business and accounting fundamentals as well as how to think creatively. Students are able to use information technology for research, decision-making and problem-solving. They are able to write accounting research reports that incorporate qualitative and quantitative data analysis while also identifying ethical dilemmas.
Bachelor of Science in Finance
The Bachelor of Science in Finance provides students with the technical, critical thinking and communications skills necessary to succeed in the finance industry. Students are provided with an understanding of the acquisition and management of funds as well as an understanding of how people make financial decisions. There is instruction in income, expenditures, and risk used by businesses to make decisions. Students are able to concentrate their studies in Finance and Banking or Financial Economics.
Financial Planning Minor
Delaware State University is one of just a handful of universities offering a CFP Board registered financial planning minor program. The program consists of courses that provide students with important knowledge in the field of financial planning. Students are exposed to the financial services industry and the program is open to students from all fields of study.
About Delaware State University
Delaware State University began as the Delaware College for Colored Students in 1891 as a Morrill Land Grant institution. It was initially designed to provide higher education to African American students with a campus established just north of Dover, the state capital. A few years after it began, the name of the school was changed to the State College for Colored Students to differentiate it from Delaware College in Newark. The school kept that name for the next 54 years.
Five courses of study along with a normal program were provided when the school first opened. In addition, there was a preparatory program for those who did not have the educational background for college-level studies. The normal program became a four-year program in 1911 and the preparatory program ended in 1917. The school became Delaware State College in 1947 and gained university status in 1993.
Today, there are over 4,600 students attending Delaware State College. US News & World Report ranks the school in the top 200 best regional universities in the country. Delaware State College enjoys a long history as one of this country’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and is a welcome center for students of all backgrounds. Approximately 91 percent of students enrolled are undergraduate students and 82 percent of students live on campus in one of eight residence halls. Delaware State University faculty includes some of the most skilled researchers seeking new innovations in areas such as medicine, military defense, and agriculture.

Delaware State University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Regional accreditation indicates that the school has the resources to meet its goals and objectives. Delaware State University Application Requirements
Applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Finance or Accounting who have not earned college credit after high school graduation must submit official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores. They must score an 800 or higher on the SAT or a 17 or higher on the ACT. Applicants must also have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Applicants who have earned college credit after high school graduation must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Those with less than 30 college credits must also provide official high school transcripts. Those with 12 or fewer credits must provide official ACT or SAT scores as well. All transferred credits must have been earned in the past ten years.
Delaware State University Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition at Delaware State University is $7,868 per year and part-time tuition is $280 per credit hour for in-state students. For out-of-state students, it is $16,138 per year or $638 per credit hour. Online programs are $400 per credit hour for undergraduate programs
Financial aid is available, and students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify. All students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA, regardless of income, as some assistance is merit-based rather than need-based. The form must be renewed annually. Students may be offered scholarships, grants or loans. Those who attend on campus may also be offered work-study programs.
