Finance and Accounting Degrees Offered at Harvard University

Undergraduate students at Harvard University pursue customized degree plans to fit their needs. Students can concentrate their undergraduate education in a number of areas that are helpful to future finance degrees. Concentrations like economics, mathematics, and statistics are all choices that are popularly used as the basis of a finance or economics degree at Harvard.

Finance degrees are not offered at Harvard University. Instead, students can obtain graduate degrees, such an MBA, through Harvard Business School. These degrees are available as traditional two-year, full-time residential degrees. Studies may also be sought through the university’s online campus or the executive education program.

Students pursuing an MBA from Harvard Business School will have two years of courses to help them further all areas of their business studies. Students pursuing doctoral degrees can choose from Accounting and Management or Business Economics.

Those choosing to attend Harvard online can complete a program called Leading With Finance. This six-week course provides successful students with certificates showing completion. Other certificate courses available include Financial Accounting and Economics for Managers. These courses provide six weeks of online learning. They do not count as credit toward undergraduate or graduate degrees.

In addition to pursuing degrees, students are eligible to take finance courses online as part of a degree or on an individual basis. Some of these online courses include Corporate Finance, Principles of Finance, Real Estate Finance and Investment Fundamentals, Business Analysis and Valuation and Financials of Real-World Economics.

Harvard University Accreditation Details

Harvard University is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. The school is re-evaluated by the NECHE every 10 years.

Harvard Business School is accredited through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This accreditation allows Harvard Business School to offer all degrees and certificate programs.

Harvard University Application Requirements

Prospective students for an MBA through Harvard Business School must be well prepared for the application process. Students must have proof that they have completed a four-year undergraduate degree. They must also take a graduate school entry test, such as the GMAT or GRE. When applying, these test scores and transcripts need to be sent directly to the university.

In addition, prospective MBA students must complete an essay, provide two letters of recommendation, submit a resume and provide a $250 fee. Students who are considered for entry into Harvard will then be interviewed. After the interview, students are asked to provide a “Post-Interview Reflection.”

Undergraduate applications are carried out through the common application. Students must complete the common application, coalition application or universal college application. In addition, they must complete the Harvard University supplement. Applicants are also expected to provide transcripts, ACT or SAT scores, two teacher recommendations, and a $75 application fee.

Those who choose to use the online program in order to become certificate holders can apply online. These individuals are asked to complete an application and essay.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The cost of attending Harvard Business School is roughly $110,000 per year for full-time, traditional students. This figure includes all tuition costs, fees, and living expenses. Harvard Business School tuition is $73,440 for a nine-month calendar year. Harvard also charges as student health fee and health insurance plan. Any student that is married and/or has children may pay an additional fee for family health insurance through Harvard. Course and program materials are estimated to cost about $2,550 per year. In addition, Harvard University assumes that graduate students will spend a minimum of $30,000 on living expenses. Students may stay off campus or in on-campus residence halls.

Harvard Business School’s online certificate programs are $1,500 in each of the financial areas. Students may receive need-based scholarships for the Economics for Managers certificate program and the Financial Accounting certificate program.

Non-degree seeking students who simply wish to take courses like Principles of Economics or Public Finance may pay for these single classes at a rate of $3,340. This figure is the same whether the course is taken online or through traditional in-seat courses. Classes that are taken on an individual basis are not eligible for financial aid through Harvard. However, some students may qualify for federal financial aid that will cover the cost of single classes.

Undergraduate students at Harvard may be eligible for need-based financial aid and scholarships. Without any financial aid, undergraduates will pay $46,340 per year in tuition. The full cost of tuition, room, board, and fees is $67,580 per year. About half of all students who apply to the undergraduate program at Harvard University receive some sort of aid to offset this cost. Harvard University also offers work programs to help students pay for education. In addition, Harvard accepts outside scholarships, federal grants and offers a student loan program.
