Finance and Accounting Degrees Offered at Northwest Arkansas Community College

Because Northwest Arkansas Community College is a community college, it can only offer associate’s degrees and academic certificates in accounting, finance, and business. It offers a couple of majors in accounting and finance.
The AAS in Business Management, 95% of which is available online, offers a specialization in accounting technology and banking and finance. Northwest Arkansas Community College also offers a technical certificate in accounting technology.
Coursework requirements for accounting technology include Principles of Accounting I and Principles of Accounting II. Other classes in the major include Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Survey of Technical Math, Business Communications and Legal Environments of Business I.
Additionally, it should be noted that all of the degrees and certificates in the business management department require students to take classes in accounting, like Principles of Accounting I and Principles of Accounting II.
The school additionally offers an AS in Business Administration through the Walton College of Business and the AS in Business, General Transfer, which is available 100% online.
At any given time, the college offers at least 200 classes online. The school additionally offers nine degrees that are 95% to 100% online, allowing students to go to school while they work. About Northwest Arkansas Community College
In 1989, the voters of Rogers and Bentonville school districts voted to allow for a new tax that would pay for what would eventually become Northwest Arkansas Community College. The need for a college in the Benton County area had become evident, and the agreement to provide funding for this community resource was the first step in filling this need.
In 1990, the school’s first 1,200+ students came through the school’s doors. Those first students were part of the largest student body at a community college in Arkansas history.
Today, about 8,300 students attend this Bentonville, Arkansas-based college. It is Arkansas’s second-largest community college. Although the school’s main campus is in Bentonville, there are also numerous satellite campuses around Benton County.
Originally, the school’s main building, Burns Hall, was 91,000 square feet. Today, it boasts 181,000 square feet of classrooms and offices. This space even includes concert hall space, where students, faculty and alumni can come to hear jazz concerts.
Students who attend the school have the option of receiving an Associate of Arts, an Associate of Science, an Associate of Arts in Teaching or an Associate of Applied Science, depending on their major. The school offers students certificates and degrees in 13 different majors.
Students interested in taking ROTC courses can take advantage of the relationship that the school has with the University of Arkansas. The community college students take their ROTC classes from the University of Arkansas while pursuing their degree at the community college.
Additionally, the school offers around 6,000 non-credit courses that students and members of the community can take advantage of.
Finally, the school offers its students various services, including services for employment, academic and career counseling, and on-campus daycare for students’ children and library facilities. Students can also take advantage of the workforce training programs that Northwest Arkansas Community College provides in conjunction with Walmart, Inc. To that end, the college receives support from the Walton Family Foundation and the Walmart Foundation.
Northwest Arkansas Community College Accreditation
The Northwest Arkansas Community College receives its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. Accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review process. College and universities that get accreditation qualify for different programs, including federal financial aid.
Northwest Arkansas Community College Application Requirements
This school embraces an open enrollment policy and allows students to enroll year-round. However, students are advised by the admissions office of Northwest Arkansas Community College to enroll early in order to get the classes of their choice.
High school students have the option of taking classes at the college. There are no restrictions against students who want to earn their associate’s degree through Northwest Arkansas Community College while they’re still in high school.
The school also offers concurrent enrollment to those who are homeschooled. Transfer students are welcome to apply to the school.
Students interested in applying should send in the necessary transcripts, meaning that high school students should submit their high school transcripts, while transfer students need to submit the transcripts from the colleges they’ve attended.
Generally speaking, students need to have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for their general education and transfer credits. The school accepts a 2.0 GPA for technical and career courses.
Additionally, the school requires that students send in the appropriate test scores, which can include COMPASS, ACT, SAT or Accuplacer.
Finally, NACC school requires a student’s high school counselor to approve the application if the student is still in high school. As well, students who are entering the school and who are under the age of 18 must provide parental consent.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Of the students enrolled at Northwest Arkansas Community College, nearly 60% of them get financial aid of some sort, including grants, scholarships, and loans.
Would-be Northwest Arkansas Community College students need to fill out the FAFSA in order to qualify for federal aid, as well as for the campus-based grants and scholarships. Additionally, the school offers need-based financial aid for veterans and parents who are returning to school.
Filling out the FAFSA is also required of those students who want to qualify for work-study. Students who secure work-study jobs are allowed to work up to 19 hours a week at the job.
The state of Arkansas also provides some financial aid opportunities through the Arkansas Lottery Scholarship.
